A10: Results-Based Financing Deep Dive: how do we enhance and scale up?
The majority of people without access to electricity today live in challenging locations and are unable to afford Off-Grid Solar products. Supply- and demand-side subsidies, typically delivered as Results-Based Financing, are crucial to incentivize companies to expand their distribution networks into unserved markets and to plug the affordability gap.
Achieving universal access by 2030 with the support of off-grid solar PAYGo is expected to take 27x the amount of RBF funding committed to date. RBF commitments need to increase significantly over the next 6-year period. And for them to be effective, RBF mechanisms need to be streamlined.
In this session, representatives from government, the development community, and industry, will explore the crucial ways in which RBF needs to be enhanced to deliver impact at scale.
